The English Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in rhetoric and composition at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in September 2007. We are particularly interested in candidates with specializations in technical and/or professional writing, and expertise in one or more of the following areas: workplace writing, digital literacies, new media studies, genre studies. Applicants must have the PhD in hand by September 2007, demonstrated expertise in teaching, and an active scholarly agenda.

Position Description:
The individual in this position (full-time, 10-month) is responsible for coordination of writing tutorial services, assisting with the College's writing portfolio program, and providing appropriate tutorial services for writing across the curriculum.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Conducts effective tutorials in writing and related areas
Coordinates the department's writing tutorial schedule
Conducts workshops on a variety of topics
Prepares instructional materials
Evaluates writing portfolios and assists with monitoring this program
Develops strategies to attract students to use tutorial services, attend workshops, and achieve successful writing portfolios

Drexel seeking Director of the Freshman Writing Program

Drexel University is seeking an Assistant Professor of English to serve as the Director of the Freshman Writing Program, housed in the Department of English and Philosophy (www.drexel.edu/coas.engphil). This full-time, tenure-track appointment begins in July 2007.

Duties of the Director of the Freshman Writing Program would include setting the goals and objectives of Drexel’s first-year writing program; designing, developing, and continually improving the program’s curriculum; administering freshman writing courses (between 90 and 120 sections each term); supervising and coordinating faculty; and representing the Program within the university and in writing program administration organizations. The successful candidate will be an active voice in the planning and development of Drexel writing initiatives. In fulfilling these duties, the Director will have the help of the Assistant Director of the Writing Program.

Writing Center and Supplemental Instruction Coordinator for the Academic Success Center

Dickinson State University is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and creative individual to join the Academic Success Center (ASC), a learning excellence program. As an ASC team member, the Writing Center and Supplemental Instruction Coordinator will supervise direct academic assistance in writing; teach three sections of supplemental instruction for developmental English courses; and provide leadership and structural support for the Writing Across the Curriculum initiative. The Coordinator will also hire, train, and evaluate the English peer tutors and Writing Center Interns; develop and implement an On-Line Writing Lab (OWL); provide training sessions and informational workshops for both students and faculty; and write grants to support the initiatives of this program.

Reporting to the President, the Grant Writer will be responsible for researching, planning, preparing, submitting, and monitoring external grant applications to support the ongoing success of DSU. Duties will be: to identify and research funding opportunities and alternative resources that address the University’s stated mission and goals; to collaborate with college faculty and staff to determine funding needs; to develop, write, and submit original grant proposals and applications; to maintain centralized files for externally funded programs and other grant activities; to act as a liaison with private and public funding agencies and organizations; and to perform other duties as assigned. Exceptional writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills; good computer software skills; experience researching and evaluating appropriate grant funding resources, and the ability to meet deadlines and work independently are essential for success in this position. Effective management, organizational, budgeting, and planning skills are also required. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of successfully demonstrated grant writing experience. A Master’s degree and experience in higher education grant writing are preferred qualifications.

Assistant Coordinator of Writing Center

Seton Hill University seeks qualified applicants for the full-time, professional staff position of Assistant Coordinator of the Writing Center. The applicant must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and must be able to work cooperatively with various constituencies within the university community.
