Designed as thematically-focused freshmen seminars, these advanced courses will teach integrated skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening), with an emphasis on academic speaking and listening comprehension. Lecturers teach 6 sections (or their equivalent) in a two-semester course sequence, and may participate in proficiency or placement testing, and other program activities.

Lecturers teach six sections (or their equivalent) of introductory or intermediate writing courses (3 sections/semester). These writing courses are integrated into the writing and cultural foundations elements of the core curriculum.
