80% Time Temporary Lecturer Position in Writing Across the Curriculum Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies Massachusetts Institute of Technology Position from February 2008 to May 2008

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Head of the Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies, the Director of Writing Across the Curriculum, and the Director for Technical Communication, the lecturer will 1) work with course instructional staff (faculty and technical instructors) in various disciplines to develop and implement assignments that teach the fundamentals of scientific and technical writing and speaking, 2) provide in-service instruction in various scientific and engineering classes; 3) evaluate and respond to student writing in a variety of contexts; and 4) teach writing sections attached to science and engineering classes.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Substantial experience teaching scientific and technical communication; • Earned doctorate or equivalent experience in the teaching of writing; • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, and administrative staff. • Experience in digital technology or visual rhetoric, or both preferred.
