Assistant or Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Composition

Tenure-track or tenured; expected start date: August 18, 2009. Duties: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in rhetoric and composition (topics courses, graduate surveys, advanced seminars, and the practicum for teachers). Direct graduate student theses and dissertations. 2-2 teaching assignment. Research, write, and publish in specialty of rhetoric and composition. Actively contribute to the workings of the department, College, and University community. Initial evaluation of applicants will be made on the basis of the following materials: letter of application, vita, graduate transcript (Assistant Professor position only), and three letters of recommendation. Required Qualifications: Specialization in rhetoric and composition. At least one year of successful teaching. Preparation to teach beginning and advanced courses in specialty. Ph.D. in English or a related field by start date of appointment. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor must demonstrate an established record of publication in rhetoric and composition, as well as experience and excellence teaching a variety of courses in specialty. Preferred Qualifications: Subspecialty in an area especially relevant to current disciplinary inquiries, including (but not limited to) cultural or transnational rhetorics, composition pedagogy, new media, new literacies, historical rhetorics, etc. Interest in developing new courses in rhetoric and composition. Ability to contribute to the climate of diversity in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, including a diversity of scholarly approaches.
