Full-Time Non-Tenure-Line Instructor, DePaul University--Chicago

The Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse (WRD) at DePaul University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure- line (Term Faculty) position primarily in first-year writing instruction to begin September 2015. We particularly seek candidates with verifiable success teaching writing to non-native English speakers. Limited opportunities to teach applied language courses at the advanced undergraduate level, in our MA in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse, and in our Graduate Certificate in TESOL—or to contribute to our other programs—are available to candidates with appropriate coursework, experience, and credentials.  For more about the department, visit https://wrd.depaul.edu/

Please submit online a cover letter, CV, list of three recommendation contacts, and statement of teaching philosophy. Applicants will be contacted for interviews beginning July 1; the position will remain open until filled.

This is a one-year term faculty appointment that runs through June 30, 2016, with possibility of renewal depending on annual performance review and/or budget availability. Your teaching and other contributions identified by your department will be evaluated during academic year 2015-2016.

We seek candidates with a clear commitment to undergraduate writing instruction, including first-year writing; experience teaching writing successfully to students of varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds; and sensitivity to the educational goals of a diverse student population.

Successful candidates will teach three courses per term (a nine-course load on the quarter system) in an active and dynamic independent writing department; attend staff development and department meetings; mentor part-time faculty; and participate in portfolio assessment. WRD includes contingent faculty representation in its Voting Assembly. Applicants must have at minimum an MA in rhetoric and composition or an equivalent field by September 2015. Recent coursework in rhetoric and composition pedagogy, including second language writing, is highly desirable.
