Applications are invited for a permanent, fulltime position as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Academic Writing/Writing Studies within the School of English and Media Studies. The School welcomes applicants who have expertise in writing studies, rhetoric and composition, WAC/WID and/or writing pedagogy from related disciplines, such as English, Applied Linguistics or Education. Secondary areas of expertise are open; candidates are encouraged to look at the School’s full range of programmes and consider possible areas of synergy and cross-disciplinary co-operation.
The level of appointment will depend on qualifications and experience, but the School is seeking an appointee who can take a leadership role in the area of Academic Writing, and who can supervise the work of the tutorial staff who teach and conduct workshops in the programme.

This position will be based either on the Manawatu campus in Palmerston North or on the Albany campus in Auckland, but the appointee will also have responsibility for the oversight and coordination of papers taught on all three campuses as well as in distance mode. The successful applicant will share primary responsibility for a substantial first-year undergraduate academic writing course for students in humanities, communication and social science disciplines, as well as contributing to related curriculum development and consultation within Massey’s redesigned BA. In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to the teaching and future development of writing studies and/or one of the other programmes within the School at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The School of English and Media Studies currently offers programmes in English, Media Studies and Expressive Arts. From 2016, it will introduce new programmes in Creative Writing, Public and Professional Writing, and Theatre Studies. The School will also be developing a new cross-disciplinary Science Communication programme from 2017.
The successful applicant will have a completed PhD at the time of application. University teaching experience, academic publications and other evidence of ongoing research activity will be expected.
