Lecturer of English/ Director of the Writing Program – Fairleigh Dickinson University (Metropolitan Campus/Teaneck, NJ)

University College’s School of the Humanities at Fairleigh Dickinson University invites applications for the position of Director of the Writing Program. This twelve-month lecturer position is both administrative and instructional. The Director of the Writing program reports to the Director of the School of the Humanities and interacts with faculty in the disciplines.

Start date: January 2016.
Required Qualifications:

  • A  Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition at the time of appointment, or, alternatively, a Ph.D. or M.F.A. in a related discipline with extensive teaching experience in composition
  • Two years minimum administrating a writing program
  • Evidence of innovation and excellence in the teaching and assessment of writing at the college level
  • Expertise in current theories and best practices in composition pedagogy

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Expertise in current theories, best practices, and/or experience in writing center administration

Requirements of the position:

  • Lead and coordinate efforts of Writing Program faculty in maintaining a dynamic and cohesive first-year writing program predicated on a shared pedagogical philosophy
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate adjunct faculty
  • Conduct Writing Program faculty orientation sessions, meetings, classroom observations, and faculty development workshops
  • Plan and conduct learning outcomes assessment and guide implementation of curricular improvement based upon outcomes
  • Schedule and staff Writing Program courses
  • Chair the College Taskforce on Writing Intensive Courses and provide faculty development and guidance in the integration of writing in the disciplines
  • Coordinate student placement into Writing Program courses
  • Oversee student add/drops, withdrawals, and deferments in Writing Program courses.
  • Provide general oversight of and consultation to the director of the Metro Writing Studio regarding writing center policies, programs, and procedures
  • In consultation with the Director of the School of the Humanities, set annual goals and objectives of the Writing Program and timelines for implementation
  • Teach in the Writing Program (usually a 2/2 load)
  • Perform other relevant duties that may arise
