The Department of English at Iowa State University is pleased to host the Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing conference, November 7-8, 2008, and especially pleased to welcome Kathleen Blake Yancey as our keynote speaker. We are eager to receive proposals on a wide range of topics related to our theme of Multimodal Communication Pedagogies. The English Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the Houston Writing Fellows Program for writing instructors interested in joining a cohort of teachers and scholars committed to the theory and practice of writing pedagogy. The Houston Writing Fellows Program is designed to enhance the intellectual and pedagogical community of instructors involved in the English Department’s writing courses by providing workshops, mini-conferences, mentorship opportunities, and other events that explore writing pedagogy.

We invite you to propose a contribution to Teaching with Student Texts, a collection of essays focusing on the practice of using student texts in writing classrooms and other settings. We seek essays describing how teachers can use texts written by the students they are working with to illustrate the moves, strategies, principles, and forms of critical reading and academic writing.
