Assistant Professor of English and Academic Director of Developmental Writing,
Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio
Tenure-track assistant professor to teach courses in rhetoric and composition theory and pedagogy, basic writing theory and pedagogy, and courses in writing and basic writing. This position’s responsibilities will include teaching three courses over two semesters, including undergraduate, graduate, and developmental writing courses; ongoing research and scholarship in appropriate areas; and service to the university and community. The position’s academic home is the Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts.
Responsibilities include appointment as Academic Director of Developmental Writing, with responsibilities for curriculum development, academic oversight, and assessment of Wright State’s developmental program in writing, reading, and academic success. The Academic Director will also align the developmental curricula with subsequent courses offered in the English Department and the University’s Writing Across the Curriculum program. The developmental program is administered by University College, where most students begin their WSU careers.
Candidates must have Ph.D. in Writing Studies, Composition and Rhetoric, or related field anticipated by August 15, 2012. Strong background in writing pedagogy and theory and evidence of successful teaching of writing. Preferred qualifications: Scholarship, coursework, and/or experience in Basic, Developmental, or Remedial writing pedagogy and curriculum design; coursework and background in reading theory and pedagogy; academic administrative experience.
