Austin College - Director of Writing Center/Assistant Professor
AUSTIN COLLEGE invites applications for the Director of the Writing Center. This is a full-time, non-tenure track permanent position with faculty rank. Faculty rank (assistant, associate, or professor) is based on experience and negotiable. A Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition or comparable field required. The position comprises a blend of administrative duties as Director of Austin College’s Center for Writing, and teaching duties in the area of Rhetoric and Composition. The position will begin in August 2017. Teaching expectation is one course per semester. Teaching responsibilities include expository writing, upper level courses in writing and writing pedagogy, first-year seminars, and January Terms. Specialty is open, and we welcome candidates with a variety of interests.
Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching, experience with writing centers, and a commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education. Ideal candidates will also have experience in some or all of the following areas: the administration of writing centers, faculty workshops in Writing Across the Curriculum, peer tutor training, curriculum development, and/or program assessment. Additionally, candidates should have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty across the disciplines in shaping a strong and energetic writing curriculum.
