The University of Missouri-Kansas City is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor and Coordinator of Writing Assessment. Half of the position will focus on teaching/advising responsibilities as an Assistant Teaching Professor of English, and half will be devoted to overseeing the RooWriter (a standardized writing assessment at UMKC).


As an Assistant Teaching Professor, this person will have the following duties:
Teach two courses per semester (in the fall and spring) and one course in the summer semester as assigned by the Chair of English.


As the Coordinator for Writing Assessment, this person will have the following duties:


Manage all the RooWriter Evaluators; manage communications effectively, including keeping correct information on website; managing calls and emails, and student requests; maintain the RooWriter web site.

Analyze and report the scores at the end of each semester to the Assistant Vice Provost and other entities as requested.

Serve on the University Writing and Reading Board (UWRB) and work closely with the Board on all aspects of the RooWriter;including not only the website, but in designing/updating the assessments.

Monitor student interactions with the RooWriter and follow-up discussions.

Participate in professional development activities such as regional organizations focused on writing assessment.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice Provost for Assessment.

As the Assistant Teaching Professor, this person will report to the Department Chair of the English Department. As the Coordinator for Writing Assessment, this person will report to the Assistant Vice Provost for Assessment.


Preferred Qualifications

PhD in English with expertise/training in Composition and Rhetoric

3+ years of experience in the teaching of writing

Expertise in writing assessment, preferably with publications in composition and rhetoric

Ability/experience in managing other employees and providing constructive feedback

Facility with online technologies

Strong communication skills, evidenced in effective oral communication and well-written reports

 

Full-time, benefit-eligible, 12-month, ranked non-tenure track position to begin in May 2013.  

Salary negotiable.
